We've had our map of 'blog hits' active for quite some time now. (Over 1 year at least) Please refer to the map on the right side of our blog. After all this time and after many international hits, we've not had one hit from Africa.
I think that this is a clear sign of the extreme poverty of the continent. We certainly don't have a blog that targets Africa, but to have no hits at all is a bit telling. I've been reading a book about Bono and his efforts to encourage debt forgiveness to African countries.
I can't say that forgiving debt will cause hits on our blog, but perhaps it will begin to encourage economic development.
Here's to Africa!

Jonathan,
Just yesterday, Justin Taylor posted on Third World debt and he promises more posts to come. You might find it interesting and informative. Find him at theologica.blogspot.com and scroll down to Wright, Colonialism, and Third World Debt. Important issues but sadly not very prevalent on many people's radar screens. Glad you're thinking about Africa.

Beth,
Thanks for the comment. I sometimes wonder if anyone reads my posts! I read the post on JT's site. I had a difficult time understanding exactly what was trying to be communicated.
I'd be VERY interested to hear what Coty has to say about DATA. www.data.org They are working dilligently with the people of Africa while putting pressure on politicians to reduce the debt.
Thanks again for the comment!!
Jonathan,
Coty and I were talking about this this morning. He hadn't read JT's blog post yet. After a quick scan of the post, he said he'd probably come down somewhere between JT and Bono - not in favor of complete debt forgiveness but probably not as hard line as JT. He's had lots of experience in this area and has a good understanding of both the economics on a macro scale and the more micro human side of it. I'll send the DATA link on to him.
Hope all's well with you all.
Beth
Thanks for the post!
Yes, all is well and I have nothing to complain about!
3 months and I'd love to fix that little problem of no hits from Africa . . . can you hold out?? I'd love to be the first one! :)
