How long is too long?

So I need real mommy advice. Lately Emma has flat out refused to take a nap once or twice a week. She will play in her bed for an hour and a half to two hours and then be ready to get up. I'm SO not ready for her to give up her nap and frankly...neither is she! She is a total WRECK by 4:30 or 5 on the days she doesn't nap. She's been crying in her bed for 30 minutes and I've told her she can't get up until she takes a nap, but honestly I don't think it's going to happen. Any advice would certainly be welcomed.

If she's a total wreck on the days when she doesn't nap, then she still needs one. Leave her alone until the time she would normally wake up.

You knew that would be my advice, heartless mother that I am. :-)

Hmm... When V doesn't want to sleep and keeps playing/talking, I wait about 15 minutes then sternly tell her to go to sleep. She usually listens. She doesn't have a single toy in her room. I know that would tempt her. The longest she goes is about an hour before falling asleep. The only time she doesn't eventually fall asleep is some Sundays when she falls asleep in the car on the way home. Most important though is getting her out of the house for at least an hour in the morning to run around and burn energy. Sorry Emma isn't sleeping well!

not napping is rough!! so sorry! But I do both of what Kelly and Michelle said. I leave them till they would normally get up (talking or crying is not going to get them up early), and I sternly tell them it's nap time. If you are consistent, and she needs it, she'll get the idea, and fall back into her routine!
